Contracted by Ballast Nedam, we realised an immense pedestrian bridge at Schiphol Airport. This Design and Build assignment included a temporary bridge with a total length of 200 meters. The bridge is placed between the E and F pier where we worked on the overlay of both piers. Thanks to this temporary bridge, the passengers were not hindered by the renovations and both piers were safely accessible.
The project is fully 3D engineered and consists of 12 elements, the longest of which is 41 meters long and 4.5 meters wide. The elements were pre-assembled at one of our storage locations. The elements are provided with approximately 3,000 m2 fire-resistant roof and facade panels and various windows. The bridge contains a more than 230 tons steel structure.
The elements were transported from a storage location in Rijssen under professional supervision as Convoi Exceptionnel to Schiphol. On the construction site, the elements were connected to each other using among others a 400-ton crane.
