Contracted by Ballast Nedam Building & Development Special Projects, Voortman Steel Construction was involved in a huge job at Schiphol Airport. The contract included the realization of an overlay on the E and F pier and the expansion of the terminal in the area between these piers. In this way, security checks at the gate are no longer necessary and traveling through the airport becomes more comfortable.
We supplied and assembled the over 4,000-ton steel structure for this extensive project. The work was part of the extensive Central Security Non-Schengen (CSNS) project. The security process of Non-Schengen passengers has been changed from decentralized security at the gates to central security in the terminal building. Schiphol introduced this concept in order to be able to meet future passenger flows. The project was entirely located in the operational area of the airport.
