Contracted by Dura Vermeer, Voortman Steel Construction participated in the construction of the Akzo Nobel headquarters in Amsterdam. The building, designed by architectural firm Group A, consists of more than 430 tons of steel and is located in the 'Zuidas' business district.
AkzoNobel and Dura Vermeer set the ambition to obtain a BREEAM Excellent certificate. Important and visible aspects that contribute to obtaining this certificate include the solar panels on the roof, a thermal storage system, the proximity to NS Station South and the facade. This is carried out as a double climate facade, in which the warm air between the inner and outer skin of the building is ventilated to prevent heating of the interior in summer. In winter, the ventilation is closed, so the stagnant warm air helps heat the building.
