At the beginning of October, the construction of The Joan started, a modern and sustainable multi-tenant building in Amsterdam Duivendrecht. The building is situated in the area called ‘Werkstad Overamstel’, at a prominent high-profile location alongside the junction of the motorways A10 and A2. Next to office and business space, The Joan offers space for events and a publicly accessible restaurant.
The Joan responds to the increasing demand for a sustainable and healthy work environment at an easily accessible location. The eight-storey building contains 24,000 square metres of office and business space with a flexible layout. A characteristic feature of the building is the glass façade with steel crosses. The use of a lot of glass creates an open appearance and plenty of natural light. In combination with high ceilings and green this creates a healthy and pleasant work environment.
The building’s ambition is a BREEAM Excellent certification. Measures have been taken in the design and construction to increase sustainability, such as the collection and reuse of rainwater and the use of sustainable building materials and energy-saving technologies. The Joan will be completed at the beginning of 2022.
Developer Being leads the realisation of The Joan, in cooperation with Steengoed BMA. Commissioned by Visser & Smit Bouw, our contribution consists of the supply and assembly of the steel structure, which is provided with a 60 minutes fire-resistant coating, and the laying of the concrete hollow-core slab floors. As a chain partner, we were part of the construction team at an early stage. Our project team thought along on optimisation and feasibility of the design and on the realisation of an efficient construction process.
