Construction of Europe’s most modern PVC factory has started

For PlastChem in Hardenberg Voortman Steel Construction builds the most modern PVC factory in Europe. The new factory with offices will be realised at business park Broeklanden. After more than six months of preparation, both parties reached an agreement at the end of last year. Construction started on Friday 3 April.

Due to the current circumstances, only a few people were present at the start of the construction. Onno-Pieter Sonnega, owner of PlastChem, took a look at the pile-driving activities together with his wife and son and they performed a ceremonial action. On behalf of Voortman, director Jelle Brantsma and sales manager Lars Bekhuis were present. “Despite or maybe thanks to the current situation, it was a day we will not easily forget”, according to Mr. Sonnega.

PlastChem develops and manufactures PVC compounds for the plastic processing industry. The customers of PlastChem use these compounds for different applications, such as construction materials, garden partitions, car dashboards and cables.

The new factory consists of three hall sections of in total 10,000 square meters, offices and a laboratory wing of approximately 3,000 square meters. Next to the construction of the building, Voortman Steel Construction also takes care of the coordination of the installation works and the construction of the infrastructure. We pay a lot of attention to the integration of the process installation in the new factory.

For the realisation of the extensive project, a construction team is composed, which came together already in the preparation phase. This way of working enables us to think cooperatively with our client on smart constructional solutions.
