For pharmaceutical manufacturer MSD, Voortman Steel Construction and construction company Akor build a cold store for vaccines. The new building in Haarlem (NL) consists of a shipping area, a warehouse and office spaces.
Once again, Akor and Voortman Steel Construction combine their knowledge and expertise for a streamlined building process. A couple of years ago, the parties built a Critical Utilities Building (CUB) for the MSD branch in Oss (NL), to the great satisfaction of MSD. In order to be able to cooperate even more efficiently, Akor and Voortman set up a general partnership (vof) for this project and for possible follow-up orders.
MSD outsourced the project completely to the Irish construction company John Sisk & Son, who ordered the realization of the cold store with office and shipping area last year. Sisk is specialized in complex projects for the pharmaceutical industry. This is their first project in The Netherlands.
The construction meets all requirements for FM Approval, a certification by FM Global, the world’s largest insurance company. Many international companies demand this certification as a quality and safety label. Because of this quality label and the high-value medicines to be stored in it, the cold store has to meet high standards in terms of fire safety. That is why the partitions in the building are fire-resistant for 120 minutes.
The cold store will be delivered in shell condition. Akor and Voortman realize the complete building, up to and including the completion of the office spaces, except for the installations. Meanwhile, the concrete substructure of the cold store has been finished; the foundation and the floors have been poured. Our assembly team has started the construction of the 630 tonnes steel structure. The building will be delivered at the end of this year.
