Working on behalf of Sprangers, Voortman Steel Construction is involved in construction of the Primark distribution centre. The mega-distribution centre at the Borchwerf II business park in Oud Gastel is being substantially extended. Around an extra 30,000 square metres in warehousing space is being added to the current 56,000 square metres. The extension has a height of 22 metres to allow for a fully automated system inside. With a total surface area of 86,000 m2 the distribution centre is one of Primark’s biggest.
Primark is a retail chain with around 341 stores all over the world. Primark’s head office is located in Ireland and the Netherlands now has around nineteen stores. Clothing and accessories arrive at the ports of Rotterdam and Antwerp and are transported from there to the distribution centre in Roosendaal.
For the extension, Voortman Steel Construction is providing the engineering (including main static calculation) and building of the 1,850-ton steel structure. Our engineers were closely involved early on during the development of the steel design. In week 22 we started the assembly of the steel construction.
The extension is scheduled for completion and use in January 2020.
