Recently Voortman Steel Construction has reached an agreement with logistics service provider Kloosterboer about the realisation of reefer racks and reefer safety tunnels for the container depot of Kloosterboer Vlissingen. Kloosterboer is currently investing in a fully automatic container terminal with so-called RTG cranes in order to handle the incoming and outgoing container flows as efficiently as possible. In this way, Klooserboer wants to meet the growing demand from customers in container logistics and together with port authority North Sea Port put the Zeeland ports on the map when it comes to containers. Family business Kloosterboer has over 90 years of experience in handling temperature-controlled loading and is specialised in storage, stevedoring, transport, customs and logistics IT solutions.
Voortman reached a Design and Build agreement concerning the creation of 30 reefer racks and 38 reefer safety tunnels. As well as production and assembly, Voortman also takes care of the structural design. A reefer is a sea container for goods which have to be transported chilled. By means of a reefer rack the containers are easily accessible in the port when in storage. A reefer safety tunnel ensures that the personnel of the container terminal have safe access to the reefer racks.
The reefer rack comprises a main supporting structure with several levels of slatted floors which are accessible by stairs in the rack. The levels are surrounded by fencing. The roof is fitted with a roof.
Voortman is scheduled to begin assembly of the first reefer racks and tunnels at the end of 2019.
