On the VU University site in Amsterdam, Voortman Steel Construction is currently constructing the New University building.
For the execution of this project, Voortman does not only supply and assemble the 2,100 tons steel structure. It also takes care of the mounting of the SlimLine floors and the engineering and mounting of the composite steel floor decks, including inspection hatches.
After more than six months of assembling, the steel structure has reached its highest point: 53 metres. The activities now continue inside the building, where Voortman mounts the composite steel floor decks. These will be placed on top of the already mounted SlimLine floors. Meanwhile a quarter of the 20,000 m2 floors, with plastic inspection hatches for the installations underneath, has been mounted.
The New University building comprises approx. 31,000 m2 aboveground over 13 layers and a 3-layer underground parking garage of approx. 24,000 m2. Special features of the multifunctional building are its height and the atrium façade. The project was assigned by building combination Campusplein, consisting of the VolkerWessels companies Visser & Smit Bouw and Boele & Van Eesteren.
