Assigned by Systabo B.V., Voortman Steel Construction supplies and assembles the 1,200 tonnes steel structure and the roof and wall cladding for the new distribution centre of parcel carrier DPD at the Westfields business park, to the northwest of Eindhoven.

Modern and multifunctional

The modern and multifunctional logistic building has a 88,000 m2 surface. The engineering department of Voortman elaborated the design of the steel structure into a complete 3D BIM model. The assembly of the steel structure and the roof and wall cladding takes place in two phases. Meanwhile, the steel structure of the hub is ready and the roof and wall cladding is now being fixed to it. At the same time, the steel structure of the depot is being assembled. According to the accurate planning for this project, the assembly of steel and cladding will be finished before the summer holiday.

DPD will take the new head office, also referred to as HUB Eindhoven, into use at the beginning of 2019. The hub is 24/7 operational and is equipped with a sorting machine which processes 50,000 packages an hour.

The Dutch company Bosman Van Zaal develops and constructs greenhouses for the international horticulture branch and also supplies the related technical systems. Due to the company’s growth, the construction of a new commercial building has become necessary. Heembouw B.V. is currently realizing a new production facility with office space at the Green Park Aalsmeer business park.

Special cause

Assigned by Heembouw, Voortman Steel Construction supplies and assembles the 1,000 tons steel structure, precast hollow core slabs and prefab concrete façade elements. The cooperation with Voortman was requested by the principal Bosman Van Zaal. Recently, the company purchased machines from our sister company Voortman Steel Machinery, which will be deployed in the manufacturing of greenhouse constructions.

Craftsmanship required

A honeycomb structured truss is given a prominent place in the façade of the new building, as a reference to the company logo of Bosman Van Zaal. The production of this truss, with a total length of 45 meters, required the necessary craftsmanship from our welders. This week, it was mounted on site.
